15 Jun Empower Simcoe’s Statement on Protests from President Jim McNamara
From Empower Simcoe President Jim McNamara, please see our Empower Simcoe Statement on protests in the United States:
As the world continues to observe the events in the United States, we have been reminded once again of the abhorrent levels of racism, injustice, and inequality faced by the Black community in the United States, Canada, and around the world. We have heard many “nice words” over the years from leaders of our country, province, and cities, but words without concrete action will not lead to change.
For more than 65 years, Empower Simcoe has advocated for the equality and inclusion of people of all abilities. Every day, our employees and volunteers commit to affect positive change in the lives of the people and families we support; however, there is much more work to do.
At Empower Simcoe, we vow to educate ourselves better, and learn from the Black community, as well as other communities facing discrimination. We remain committed to inclusion and acceptance in a world where people of all abilities can learn, engage, and speak up on important issues, including racism and prejudice. In this moment, and always, Empower Simcoe commits to being a part of this necessary transformation. Everyone has the right to Be. Belong. Thrive.
James McNamara
Board President
